ECOLOGICAL FARMING JOBS

Position: CSA Farm – Production Assistant
Farm: Green Hart Farms
Location: New Hamburg, Ontario (Just 15 minutes drive west from Waterloo, 15 minutes east of Stratford)

At Green Hart Farms we’re on a mission to make it easier for busy families eat healthy, eat local and eat fresh, while feeling good about where their food comes from.

We grow and pack our farm grown fresh vegetables and greens for delivery to homes in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge and other local communities from May to late November.

We have four hoop houses and numerous outdoor beds on two sites. We produce our own seedlings for transplant, as well as for live plants sales in the spring.

Here’s what we’re looking for….

We’re seeking a hardworking and enthusiastic individual with an interest in ecological vegetable production to join us this season from April to mid September. This is an entry level position and we will provide training, so no experience and no degree or diploma is required.

As a member of our team here’s what you can expect.

What you will be doing:

• seeding trays and potting up plants
• preparing beds for planting
• transplanting vegetable seedlings
• hand harvesting vegetables
• washing and sorting produce
• picking and packing orders for customers
• completing basic reports and data records
• maintaining the potting shed and seedling room in a clean efficient state

Less frequent tasks you may be involved in:

• weeding and weed prevention and pest control
• assisting with maintenance/repair tasks around the farm
• bagging and weighing produce

What you will need:

• reliable transportation to get to work on time each day at 8 a.m.
• a driver’s licence for driving farm vehicles between sites
• ability to commit for the duration of the season
• physical fitness to lift 40 lbs and work in crouching, kneeling, bending and standing positions
• to enjoy working outdoors in a variety of conditions including heat, wind and rain
• careful attention to detail
• to enjoy working as part of a team and independently
• to complete repetitive tasks quickly and reliably
• ability to distinguish between colours
• ability to take instruction and follow through to complete tasks

Compensation:

$15.00/hour plus vegetables for your own use each week

Regular hours of work are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with 2 days per week starting in April and increasing to 4 days per week during our busiest season from May to mid September. Enjoy a one week holiday in early August.
