Position: Supply Chain Specialist in the Cacao Sector

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced individual to join the ChocoSol team as Supply Chain Specialist in the Cacao Sector.

ChocoSol is a Learning Community Social Enterprise that makes stone-ground dark chocolate, also known as the ‘food of the gods’, using cacao sourced directly from farmers in Mexico, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, and Guatemala. We also import coffee from Mexico and are currently exploring Ecuador and Peru as future suppliers of fair trade organic coffee. Our delicious and nutritious bean-to-bar chocolate and coffee is processed in-house in Toronto.

Our organization has been building and evolving for over 14 years in Toronto, and we are now looking to expand and strengthen our raw materials procurement and supply chain management team.

The successful candidate is passionate about cacao and has the ability to continue building relationships in our horizontal trade network. This requires the ability to effectively communicate with our suppliers, demonstrate leadership, and support the individuals and processes to purchase and import raw materials. The right candidate should enjoy engaging with a diverse community of people and maintain high ethical standards, and take pride in their work and the company.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the strategic sourcing process with key stakeholders and supply chain team by: driving best total value for key stakeholders while executing on the strategic sourcing and contract processes for goods and services (primarily cacao, and to a lesser extent coffee)
  • Ensure proper documentation, pricing,and safety protocols are all up to CFIA standards in country of origin
  • Have ability to seamlessly translate all Spanish to English and English to Spanish communications facilitating a well documented and clear agreement between producers and purchasers
  • Have experience working direct with both producers and producer organizations of the highest ethical and ecological standards with a special emphasis in Ecuador
  • Drive and recommend strategies for cost management, risk mitigation, and implementing continuous improvement initiatives
  • Execute international bulk and container contracts from point of export to point of import including managing Canada Border Service Agency and Canadian food inspection issues including CBSA and CFIA compliance and import documentation
  • Manage day-to-day tasks which may include planning, shipping, monitoring payments, and presenting documents from the export or purchase point to the import or sales point
  • Support and build our work in partnership, collaboration, and co-operation with indigenous communities across the Americas to support community-focused ecological regeneration
  • Maintain high ethical standards and uphold company values
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of enterprise level experience in Strategic Sourcing, Supply Chain Management and/or Procurement. Cacao Expertise in the Latin American or Ecuadorian markets preferred
  • Proven track record of successful execution of the cacao supply chain process from farms to exportation with quantifiable achievements
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills in English and Spanish:

    • Spanish - fluent or native speaker preferred - spoken and written communication
    • English - fluent in spoken and written communication
  • Strong decision making, complex problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Ability to perform under pressure to manage multiple sourcing projects and to respond to changing priorities
  • Strong business acumen and speciality in contract and agreement negotiation
  • Be able to conduct quality control tests on cacao and coffee in country of origin and organize and document safe food handling protocols
  • Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team with demonstrated success at collaborating, building strong relationships, and networking
  • Full proficiency with MS Office and Google Suites (Email,Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc…).
  • Full proficiency with Shopify and experience in order fulfilment and operations management

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in a business-related discipline, preferably Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Related degree can be considered
