ORGANIC FARMING JOBS

Position: Farming Program Coordinator

Location: Delta, Greater Vancouver BC

Earthwise Society has been a not-for-profit leader in ecological land use and environmental education for over 30 years. The Society operates a small scale organic teaching farm and urban food garden programs at a number of sites in Delta, BC. We have an exciting opportunity for an energetic and articulate individual with farming experience who will lead teams of staff and volunteers in carrying out farming operations and assist with the delivery of food security and education programs. This is a full time temporary position from Mar 15 through Nov 15, 2021. Duties will include:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Carry out farming operations including field prep, planting, maintaining, and harvesting
• Distribute crops through direct sales, CSA, farmer’s markets, or other marketing programs
• Train and supervise farm volunteers and interns.
• Participate in organic soil management activities including composting, soil amendment and cover cropping
• Assist with the delivery of food security programs
• Assist with organic certification processes and help maintain records
• Implement irrigation and water conservation strategies
• Make sure required tools and supplies are available when needed
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

• Post-secondary graduation related to agriculture, horticulture, environment, or similar
• At least 1-2 year’s farming experience
• Knowledge and understanding of sustainable horticultural practices
• Familiarity with small farm equipment including proper use and maintenance
• Good customer service skills
• Good interpersonal and communication skills
• Valid BC Driver’s License
• Enjoyment of outdoor physical work
• Basic carpentry skills an asset

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

This position will be located at 6400 3rd Avenue, Delta, BC, and at other sites in the community. This is a full time temporary position, 35 hours per week from March 15, through November 15, 2021. Weekend work will be required. There may be an option to extend this position based upon the availability of funding and a positive performance review.
