The Front Yard Flower Co. is a small urban flower farm based out of Vancouver, BC. Growing flowers is something that gives me an immense amount of joy and sharing them is even better. From asters to zinnias and everything else in between, every flower has its place and adds its own unique spirit to a hand tied bouquet. I hope to share with you some of the beauty that is lovingly grown on the farm each year!

Chemical Free and Grown with Love

From the tiniest of poppy seed to the larger tulip bulbs, each plant is grown and nurtured with loving care to ensure the best quality locally grown can offer. I don't use any chemicals on the plants and focus on regenerative farming methods. That means that I aim to improve the soil I grow in which in turn, grows better flowers!

FIELD & FLOWER WORKER

TFYFCo. is hiring a part-time (20-25 hrs/week) Flower Field Worker for the 2021 growing season! We are looking for a dynamic, outgoing, positive person interested in the cut flower trade for the 2021 flower growing season.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Keen interest in learning about or experience in working with flowers (horticultural, landscaping, floral, etc.)
  • Some experience in previous design or bouquet work an asset
  • Highly motivated and able to work efficiently and effectively
  • Able to work outside in all conditions from heat to cold with a positive attitude
  • Physically able to bend, kneel, stand and lift up to 50 lbs
  • Able to follow instruction and complete tasks correctly in a timely manner
  • Ability to pay attention to details and high quality of work
  • Required reliable vehicle to access the farm
  • Ability to take in instruction and feedback and asking for guidance when required
  • Flexible
  • Ability to work with others in a team and singly in tasks
  • Have good memory retention as there are many specific things to remember while harvesting
  • Loves meeting new people and has some retail/customer service experience
  • Between 15-30, Cdn citizen/permanent resident/refuge protection status

TASKS/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Harvest flower and herb crops properly and efficiently according to instruction
  • Prepare materials for harvest days (water buckets, elastic bands, snips, etc.)
  • Maintain accurate harvesting records
  • Make and arrange bouquets for subscription customers and farmer’s markets as well as other floral items if required
  • Preparations for farmers market days
  • Other field tasks as required (weeding, planting, seeding, general farm upkeep and organization)
  • Able to work alone effectively and efficiently unsupervised
  • Able to work early mornings and in all weather conditions from heat to cold with a good attitude
  • There may be an opportunity to work a farmer’s market stall which requires some retailing and customer service experience, attention to detail
  • Must be able to work Thursdays - Saturdays

This is a seasonal part-time position beginning in early July. We are looking for those who have agricultural, horticultural and/or floristry backgrounds however, those with a keen interest in the local cut flower trade will be considered as well. The successful applicant will have a great attitude and a willingness to accomplish tasks in an efficient manner, be detail oriented with a focus on quality, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

The field portion of this position will include proper harvesting of flowers and herbs, correct post handling of the product, maintaining harvesting records, and preparing the tools required for harvesting. There may be some bouquet making tasks for flower subscriptions and possibly overseeing a farmer’s market stall. Additional task items include field work such as weeding, seeding, planting, general farm clean up and organization.

There will be opportunities to take home farm fresh flowers!
