ORGANIC FLOWER FARMING

Position: Floriculturist
Farm: Garden Party Flower Farm
Location: St. Agatha, near Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario

Our Farm

We are an organic flower farm operating on 4 acres adjacent to the St. Agatha forest (ESPA). We grow bulk flowers for designers and florists, people doing their own weddings and events, floral bouquet subscriptions and PYO flowers for flower lovers everywhere.

We grow flowers in 4 primary fields, including 2 fields of perennials and woodies. We practice regenerative agriculture and sustainable harvesting of woodies and other materials from our adjacent forested areas. We have one large hoop house where we seed most of our spring transplants, and over winter early spring blooming flowers.

We sell in an online wholesale cut flower marketplace in Toronto. In 2022 we will be setting up a new cut flower collective where multiple growers will sell their flowers online for designer pickup at our farm. We hold multiple on-line retail shops for seedling sales, subscriptions, seasonal décor items etc. We host pick-your-own customers 2 days a week, and hold multiple ‘work bees’ annually at peak times where volunteers work for the day in exchange for plant material and flowers.

  • At least 1 (and preferably more) full season's experience on a flower or vegetable farm
  • Great stamina and ability to work in all weather conditions

  • Some flower harvesting (likely on 2-3 hrs/week)
  • Hosting flower market pick-ups

Hours & Remuneration

  • Workdays are Monday to Thursday. No weekends!
  • 2 weeks paid vacation – must be taken in July/August
  • $15 to $16/hr - depending on the amount of previous commercial flower growing experience, with a 10% salary bonus paid at the end of October if you complete the season

Extras

  • Free PYO flowers for your own enjoyment (not re-sale) every week
  • Access to free perennials and annuals for your home garden
