Position: Summer Program Coordinator

Wages and hours: 21 hrs/week at $21.80/hr

About the Loaded Ladle

The Loaded Ladle provides accessible, sustainable, locally-sourced free food on the Dalhousie University campus in Kjipuktuk (Halifax, NS). Our collective of students and workers manages this alternative food service. We also offer events and activities which critically examine barriers to food sovereignty, food security, and food justice.

About the Job

The job will support the Loaded Ladle to run summer programs, including a gardening club, grocery deliveries and a supper club. It will be a mix of interacting with other people (outside & distanced) as well as computer-based organization and coordination work (to be done remotely). Our office space is currently closed.

The ideal candidate will be interested in supporting food security for their community.


  • Enthusiasm and ideas around food justice programming
  • Interest in gardening and cooking
  • Basic experience with social media and computers
  • Able to work independently (after receiving instruction)
  • Possessing organizational skills, especially with coordinating volunteers and scheduling


  • Experience working collectively (through work or personal experience)
  • Experience facilitating a group
  • Valid Driver’s License (not a requirement)


This position is funded by the Canada Summer Jobs Program; this means applicants must be:

  • Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
  • A Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and
  • Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
