SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS

Position: Manager, Food Rescue Operations
Organization: Ontario Musicians Co-operative Inc.
Location: Barrie, Ontario

Food Rescue Program:

OMCI began the No More Starving Artists food rescue program in 2020 to provide artists and members of the public community with access to free salvaged food. The food and supplies are donated to our organization by local stores and restaurants. OMCI is a partner in the Food Rescue network operated by Second Harvest. Note: salvaged food services are an essential service in Ontario during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Position Summary:

As our Manager, Food Rescue Operations, you will work to lead and organize our food rescue efforts. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Human Resources with many points of contact within the organization, and with the assistance of other staff and volunteers on days of distribution.

Externally, you will liaise with our established Food Rescue partners to secure, rescue and receive food items, as well as approach and seek to build new relationships with possible food providers within the Barrie and surrounding area. This position is an in-person job opportunity with some online organizational opportunities. In addition to this, you will analyze, recommend strategies and solutions for effective use of technology in the food rescue program including but not limited to: Shopify, G-suite, Freshdesk, Microsoft 365/Teams, Payworks, Monday.com, SLACK, Adobe Creative Suite, Zoiper, Wix, OBS Systems, and others as approved.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Managing and conducting regular food and supply pickups from the local partner stores.
  • Managing no-contact food and supply distribution to artists and members of the local community.
  • Required: work a minimum of one day on the weekend.
  • Manage and lead Food Rescue projects by researching, creating policies, designing networks and deployment of new or enhanced Food Rescue systems and services. These projects include but not limited to:
    • Projects affecting the whole organization or one or more departments.
    • Projects requiring temporary or permanent integrations with current/new systems.
  • Follow, create or recommend enhancements for Food Rescue infrastructures, systems, strategies, procedures, data protection and policies.
    • Manage inventory data entries.
    • Maintain confidentiality protocols.
  • Analyze business requirements by communicating with key stakeholders across the organization to develop solutions. This includes but is not limited to creating and maintaining external partnerships.
  • Stay up-to-date on emerging trends and technologies.
  • Abide by COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines, in addition to OMCI health and safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications & Education Requirements:

  • Between 16-30 years of age (funded by Canada Summer Jobs)
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver licence is required.
  • Consistent access to a functioning laptop/computer.
  • Require regular and consistent access to a working cell phone with data.
  • Must be able to safely lift up to 30 lbs.
  • One to three years of experience in the following:
    • Call centre or customer service environment.
    • Management or supervisor role. Must be able to manage a team of 4-8 members/volunteers.
    • Food handling experience. Food Handler's certificate preferred, or willing to take a course and become certified as part of your employment.
  • Working knowledge of various social platforms such as, but not limited to:
    • Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Spotify
  • Working knowledge of various content management platforms such as, but not limited to:
    • Wix (Preferred), WordPress, Squarespace
  • Knowledge and ability of the following systems, but not limited to:
    • G-Suites, Slack, Shopify, Monday.com

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to keep calm and problem solve while managing and leading a team.
  • Ability to communicate and participate in video conference meetings.
