The Legacy Garden operates as a social enterprise as one of the largest urban food gardens is Canada. It is located on 8.5 acres in the geographic centre of Charlottetown directly behind the PEI Farm Centre. We are seeking experienced organic gardeners with a passion for enhancing food security while working with volunteers of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
Our gardens feature 200 community garden allotments, plus a herb garden, food forest garden, memorial garden, family pastime garden, tree nursery and a goodwill garden. On an average year, we donate over 20,000 pounds of food to local charities. We also manage on-line sales of herbs and vegetables and a seasonal, weekly farmers market plus numerous community-minded events and workshops.
Our funding to hire staff is dependent upon funding from foundations and government programs. However, interested individuals should submit an application with references as soon as possible. The work generally runs from May through October. However, 8 - 12 weeks opportunities will also be considered for students.
