Welcome to the farm team; we grow and sell many different types of vegetables. Starting our 12th season this year, we are a well-oiled machine. We currently have two part-time to full-time positions for around 70% washing and packing and 30% harvesting vegetables. The pack shed is a fast-paced environment, so a positive attitude, attention to detail, basic math skills, and a sense of humour are assets. The ability to work as a team player is essential as the daily workflow changes based on the harvest, weather, and mix of orders going out that day.

This specialized job entails:

  • Working well under pressure
  • Lots of basic addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication
  • Working with cold water for extended periods
  • Efficiently washing, sorting and packing lots of vegetables
  • Carry 30 to 40 lb crates of produce short distances

A day in the life

The primary responsibilities for this position are harvesting, washing, and packing a variety of vegetables for multiple markets. Starting between 6-7 am, most days begin in the fields harvesting vegetables. Then the harvest is brought to the pack shed for washing, packing, and bagging for market, wrapping up around 3:00-4:00 pm, with paid breaks and an unpaid half-hour lunch. This position is for 20-40 hours a week. The pack-shed crew works together to ensure vegetables that go to market are processed, sorted, and packed to provide the highest quality.

Skills & Abilities

We work with a wide range of vegetables that require different handling and packing techniques. Previous and related (landscaping, line cook, farming) experience is an asset; however, we will get you up to full speed with no problem. This job is well suited for people who are detail orientated and take satisfaction in efficiently completing repetitive tasks while still enjoying the company of a lot of vegetables. You will need to keep your workspace clean and organized and carefully track vegetable counts while clearly and immediately communicating problems and discussing solutions with other team members. Basic math skills are used constantly to make accurate predictions from the harvest and counting to fill orders.

Pay is $15.50 & $18.00/hr based on experience. You will enjoy an abundance of free vegetables and access to other delicious local food products as part of your work on our team.
