CSFB is a registered charity that supports the essential and emergency food needs of our neighbours in the Don Mills community. We work to increase access to healthy food for individuals and families through programming and services, building partnerships, and raising awareness on the issue of poverty within our region.

About Community Share Food Bank

Established in 2004, CSFB http://www.communitysharefoodbank.ca is a primarily volunteer-supported organization with a paid Program Manager. Our vision is to build a healthier, more food secure community by creating a space where people can come together and feel a sense of belonging. We strive to adhere to the following values:

  • We believe nutritious food is a basic human right.
  • We are respectful of all and treat people with compassion, dignity and understanding.
  • We believe good food is fundamental to building positive physical, mental and emotional health and our participants deserve the most nutritious food we can provide.
  • We value leadership from our participants, students and volunteers, who are vital to our success.
  • We are accountable to our participants for the programs and services we deliver.
  • We believe partnerships create strong communities.

We have recently aligned on a series of short-term strategic objectives for the next two years, and are building towards the development and implementation of a longer-term strategic plan. At this critical juncture, we are hoping to recruit new Board Directors who are interested in helping contribute to the organization’s vision for how we can better serve the needs of our community in the future.

We are currently looking for candidates who have one or more of the following skills, or who are interested in building skills in these areas:

  • Fundraising and donor development
  • Social work and/or case management
  • Board governance, including previous experience in Board leadership
  • Experience in a volunteer capacity with a front-line charitable organization

We also encourage anyone with lived experience of food insecurity to apply.

Successful candidates will serve one-year terms with the expectation of a two to three year commitment, and will have the availability to contribute five to ten volunteer hours per month, involving:

  • Attendance at Board meetings, usually on the last Tuesday of the month, every other month, from 7-9 pm (meetings will be virtual for the foreseeable future)
  • Participation in Board Committee and/or project work
  • Attendance at annual events such as the AGM and strategic planning sessions

About the Board

Members of the Board of Directors are volunteers who serve without remuneration. Board Directors are expected to prepare for Board and Committee meetings, and actively and respectfully participate in those meetings. Board Directors must comply with the Board’s policies and procedures, and adhere to the mission, vision and values of the organization.

The Board plays both a governance and an operational role currently, which includes:

  • Hiring, evaluating, and supporting the Program Manager
  • Monitoring risk and tracking progress towards objectives and goals
  • Ensuring the operations of the food bank comply with relevant legislation and procedures
  • Supporting volunteers and participants through the Program Manager, and ensuring our programs are healthy and safe for all
  • Fundraising and grant applications
  • Development of strategic goals and objectives

At CSFB, we work to provide a safe and respectful service and space for our neighbours, free of discrimination, oppression, and prejudice. Our Board is striving to recruit Directors who reflect the diversity of our participants and the broader community. We encourage applications from anyone with the skills, experience, and/or interest in our stated areas of need.
