BOARD POSITIONS

Organization: Vancouver Fruit Tree Project
Location: Metro Vancouver, BC

The Vancouver Fruit Tree Project Society (VFTP) is a community-based non-profit organization dedicated to harvesting and sharing fresh neighbourhood fruit, and increasing food security in the city. Since 1999 we have picked over 70,000 pounds of produce and redistributed through our community partners. We are a registered grassroots charity and operate on a modest annual budget. As such, we rely on our committed, enthusiastic board and volunteers to keep the project running.

The VFTP is seeking individuals to join our board of directors. Our board is a group of passionate Metro Vancouverites dedicated to local food security and community-building. The positions are for a two-year term of office.

We are looking for individuals with an interest and/or experience in the following areas:

• Finances & Accounting
• Communications
• Public Relations
• Fundraising
• Volunteer Management
• Social Enterprise
• Software & Website Maintenance

That being said, if you are hard-working and keen, but do not have these qualities, please still consider the opportunity. For many of our directors, VFTP has offered a unique opportunity to learn and grow.

It is also important that board members demonstrate accountability, teamwork, enthusiasm, professionalism and communication at all times.

Dates and Time Commitment

All VFTP Directors are expected to commit to the following events and tasks, which require an average of 10 hours/month.

Meetings

• Attend the Annual General Meeting (March 18, 2021, 7:00pm via Zoom)
• Attend monthly board meetings (3rd Wednesday of each month, 7:00pm - 9:00pm)

Fruit picking

• Attend Pick Leader training
• Lead at least two fruit picks per harvest season

Outreach

• Participate in at least two community outreach events (non-covid season)

Other

• Contribute to other aspects of the project between meetings

VFTP is committed to recruiting and supporting candidates for the Board that reflect the diversity of Metro Vancouver. VFTP encourages applications from people who live outside of Vancouver, individuals from racialized groups, Indigenous people, women, people with disabilities, people of diverse faiths, people of diverse social classes, people with diverse gender identities, and people with diverse sexual orientations.

At our next AGM on Thursday, March 18th, we will be holding elections for new board members.
