About Ferme Larkspur Farm
Ferme Larkspur Farm is an agroecological farm specializing in certified organic vegetables and cut flowers. Currently, we rent land at an incubator farm in L’Ange-Gardien QC. We market to communities in the Ottawa-Gatineau region through our 20 week CSA program and the Marché Old Chelsea. Our production area is 1.5 acres and we use no-till techniques to manage our permanent raised beds. We grow a range of summer and storage vegetables in addition to a large variety of flowers and foliage. We, Alix and Doug, are young, first-generation farmers, and a also couple. We currently operate the farm as a two-person team and we are seeking one full-time market gardener to join us for the 2021 growing season.
We are a new-ish farm, growing the business steadily since 2019. We are still learning and improving our skills as growers and small business owners, but we are open and happy to share all aspects of the farm with you and to support you in developing your skills depending on what interests you most.
We are looking for someone who:
Role & Responsibilities
You will be asked to assist the farmers in all areas of our vegetable and flower production from greenhouse propagation to final harvest and conditioning. Tasks are varied, and we try to be mindful of our bodies with jobs that are repetitive and physically difficult. We will always provide guidance and training and do a lot of jobs as a team. Some spring jobs around the farm include preparing beds, spreading compost, broadforking, transplanting, etc. As the harvest season gets going in early June we will be harvesting, processing and packing two days a week with the additional 2.5 days left for planting, weeding and bed preparation.
Some other jobs will include seeding, watering, irrigation maintenance, pruning & trellising, installing insect netting, and record keeping.
The farm is on rented land and there are no housing options on the site. Buckingham is a short 5 minute drive from the farm and Gatineau is around a 30 minute drive.
Starting date: May 3rd
End date: End of September - early October depending on availability
Hours: 35/week - Mon-Fri 8am-5pm (Thursdays 8am-12pm).
