Positions: Greenhouse Assistant and Field Crew
Company: Capital Greens Urban Farm
Location: Ottawa, Ontario

About the Farm

Capital Greens is a small-scale, diversified organic vegetable farm located at the Just Food Farm in Blackburn Hamlet (in the Ottawa Greenbelt). We grow a mix of veggies with an emphasis on salad ingredients, primarily sold through a CSA program, as well as a farmers’ market, to small grocery stores, and to an organic food distributor. In the Spring, we also grow a wide variety of organic seedlings (vegetables, herbs and some flowers) which we sell directly to home gardeners, as well as some wholesale clients.

We aim to go beyond ‘organic’ and ‘sustainable’ with our growing practices. It is our goal to have a regenerative farm. By reducing tillage, incorporating organic compost into our soil, and including cover crops in our crop rotation, we believe we can improve the health of our soil and enhance the biodiversity in our ecosystem, all while nourishing our CSA members with the healthiest vegetables possible. In the greenhouse nursery, we do not rely on pesticides to keep problem insects in check. Instead, we proactively introduce several species of beneficial insects that prey on pests.

Black, Indigenous, POC, and candidates from other marginalized groups are encouraged to apply. We welcome applications from candidates regardless of their race, religion, colour, gender identity, sexual identity or expression.

This is a unique opportunity to have a farm job without having to leave the city! The farm is just 15 minutes from downtown Ottawa, But it's on a 140+ acre farm property which is adjacent to a huge conservation area, so it really feels like you're in the country!

The Farm Team

Mat is the farm owner and manager, and Katharyn, who is returning for a second season, will be the assistant manager. They are young, friendly, energetic, and love to have fun while also working hard. Come join us for what we're sure will be a fantastic farming season!
