Location: BrusselsHuron County, Ontario
Type: internship with stipend and accommodation — we provide a tiny house on-farm, including internet and meals

Farm internship on an organic/biodynamic farm

We are looking for an intern for our mixed 200 acre farm (certified organic, farmed biodynamically) close to Brussels, Ontario.

If you have an interest in organic and/or biodynamic agriculture and self-sustainable living and are looking for some hands on experience we might be the right farm for you.

About us:

Capella Meadows is a small family farm.

We milk 170 dairy goats, one third of the milk is made into cheese that we sell mostly through distributors (capellameadows.ca)

Half the herd is bred every year with a meat buck and the kids are raised for meat on farm.

We grow all the feed for our goats (hay and grains).

Additionally we have some field crops: peas, soybeans, corn, wheat, ... depending on year and rotation.

9 acres of our farm are used for large scale vegetable growing: red beets, potatoes and squash.

A small garden provides us with all the vegetables we need for ourselves, meat and milk products come from our goats.

Farm interns will have the opportunity to take part in all aspects of our farm:

  • animal husbandry: milking, feeding, kidding season, principals of rotational grazing, ...
  • field work: haying, preparing land, seeding, managing and harvesting crops
  • large scale vegetable growing: helping with planting, weed management and machine harvest, plus the option to take over the management of 1 acre of squash
  • small scale vegetable growing in the garden and preserving of the harvest
  • cheese making: basics of cheese making for our own use plus helping at the cheese plant with packaging the cheese
  • repair and maintenance of all farm equipment
  • biodynamics: applying preparations, taking part in the preparation makers day, helping us building our farm organism

We love what we do and we love to share what we learned as well as learning from and being inspired by others.

We are looking for an intern hat can commit to a full season (beginning of March until November), exact dates are negotiable.

We provide a tiny house on-farm for accommodation, including internet and meals. Additionally interns get a weekly stipend of $200-250/week.

Interns are expected to work 40-50 hours/week, 5 days a week.

There is the option to grow 1acre of squash at the interns responsibility. We provide land, equipment and knowledge/guidance. The intern invests seeds and time and in return gets the income from selling the squash to our buyer.

We are looking for interns with

  • interest and curiosity for organic/biodynamic farming
  • eagerness to work and the physical and mental ability to keep up with the demands of farm work
  • willingness to take over responsibilities
  • the competence to work effectively
  • experience is an asset but not necessary, we will train you

To apply for an internship please email us your information and why you would like to work on our farm to: mail@capellameadows.ca
