About Ben's Blooms:
Ben's Blooms is an organic flower (+ some veg) farm started by Ben (duh) in 2019 on rented land in Bloomfield and in 2021 moved to its forever home on a beautiful 16 acre piece of land overlooking Lake Ontario just outside Milford. Growing on a modest 0.5 acres, we specialize in cut flower production for market, retail and events. 2022 will see us shift to include on farm "pick-your-own" experiences and a greater focus on dried flowers to extend the season. A small amount of the farm is also dedicated to growing veggies for market and for personal use. Check us out on instagram @bensbloooms.
Ben (me, hello hi) is a first generation farmer. Growing up in Waterloo I didn't have any interest in farming at all. While studying nutrition in school i realized i had no idea where our food was grown and opted for a farm internship in Nova Scotia. Here I fell in love with farming both the work and the lifestyle. In 2017 I graduated with a degree in Environmental Biology from Ryerson University and decided to try my hand at farming again. I found another internship on Salt Spring Island in BC and this is where I was introduced to the joyous world of flowers. After this I found another internship here in Prince Edward County working with veggies once again. Realizing my passion lied in the beauty and creativity of flowers, the following year (2019) I started Ben's Blooms at the very farm in PEC I interned at at. Fast forward to 2021, Ben's Blooms found its permanent location. The 2021 season at the new property was a learning experience but I am now ready to hit the ground running for 2022 and welcome new team members to the farm!
About the position:
The internship positions run 2 months to full season. Interns will be involved in all aspects of the farm from planning, to seeding, to transplanting, to harvest, to selling, This is an emersive experience which will be fulfilling to anyone and beneficial to those looking to pursue agriculture further. Hours of work are typically 8am-5pm with a 30 minute coffee break and a 1 hour lunch. When days are extremely hot hours will shift to 7am-4pm.
