Hiring: Market gardener
Farm & market garden: Braided Dalea

Location: near Markdale & Owen Sound, Ontario
Accommodation: Renovated camper on property with hook up to hydro for $200 rent.

Hours: Full time/Part time hours

About us: Braided Dalea started in 2022 and the fruit will be producing this year! We are growing organic strawberries, raspberries, rhubarb, asparagus, cut flowers and pastured pork. We have approximately 1.5 acres in production for this year with the intention of expanding fruit production and becoming certified organic. There are 2 other farm enterprises on the property. One grows 2 acres of organic vegetables, and the other farm business has 7 goats for dairy. There is an opportunity to work with all enterprises on the farm.

There is a bit of everything on the property that you will be surrounded by in the heat of the summer. Fruit, vegetables, eggs and cute animals are perks to working with us. We are working towards creating abundance here and open for others to join our team for the long term. The farm is 100 acres mixed with pasture, forest, marsh and a pond to dip in on those hot days. It is a short drive from the town of Markdale. There are lakes, rivers and hiking trails that are close by to enjoy on those beautiful summer days.

We are looking for 1 part time/ full time employee:

  • April - October (open for discussion)
  • 25-40 hours/day
  • 8 hour day with working one weekend day per month for attending market but otherwise, weekends off.
  • Wage: $18 - $21

Job Duties:

April: Preparing ground and planting strawberry and raspberry plants. Preparing ground for cut flower production. Seeding trays for flower transplanting.

June: Picking strawberries, transplanting flowers, harvesting asparagus and rhubarb.

July and on: Flowers! Flower production will be the main focus. Tending to the new strawberry patch.

Raspberries start late August and go through September.

Let's not forget weeding throughout the season (they never give up!).

Pigs arrive in April and will be moved around the property throughout the season. This is optional to work with them.

This is a physical job that requires repetitive tasks. Being able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in most weather conditions is an asset.
