Position: Rice Farmhand
Type: summer job / age 30 & under
Employer: Artisan SakeMaker Inc.
Location: Abbotsford, near Vancouver BC

We are looking for a reliable and self-motivated individual to manage Canada’s 4 acre commercial rice growing operation for the duration of the 2021 growing season – May to October 2021.

Job Description:

Wage: $17-20/hour based on farming experience or proven knowledge of plants growing in general.

Hours: 4-5 hours 5 DAYS PER WEEK. A day’s work typically ends before 2 pm. After that it is too hot to work in the field.

Qualifications:

  • A keen interest in organic rice growing operation.
  • A willingness to learn how to operate various farming equipment including a tractor, weeding machine, harvestor.
  • Class 5 driver’s license with clean record
  • Ability to commute to and from the rice field.
  • A research-mindedness.
  • Canadian Citizen or PR holder/Temporary Foreign Worker with SIN number
  • No criminal record

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Daily water level monitoring and filling the rice paddies with water as needed.
  • Monitor and record and report the supervisor how the rice is growing, the water temperature…
  • Run the weeding equipment in May and June apply fertilizer
  • Hand-weeding in July and onwards until harvesting in October.
  • Maintain all the equipment.
  • All related tasks
