Position: Market Cashier
Organization: Esquimalt Farmers Market
Location: Victoria, BC
Eligibility: 30 or younger (see below)

The Esquimalt Farmers Market (EFM) exists to provide a marketplace which serves as a community gathering point that builds relationships, encourages healthy, local living, as well as environmental and economic sustainability. We are seeking an energetic, motivated, and self-directed person to join our team as the Market Cashier. This is a part-time position for 12 hours weekly.

This position is dependent on funding from Canada Summer Jobs.

Wage: $16.00 per hour.
Start Date: Immediately.
Hours: 12 hours weekly, Part-time. The total amount of working hours is 276 (23 weeks -- subject to grant funding) | May 2021 to October 2021

  • Be eligible under Canada Summer Jobs guidelines
  • Applicants MUST be 18-30 years old, and legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Experience working in Customer Service
  • Experience in a self-directed role
  • Experience in a cashier role
  • Comfortable working with numbers and balancing financial records
  • Ability to work independently
  • This job requires the ability to walk long distances and lift up to 50lbs
  • Demonstrated organization and planning skills
  • Experience working or volunteering in a non-profit environment is an asset
  • Strong creativity and problem solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interest in local food systems

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Reports directly to the Executive Director
  • Weekly attendance 1:00 - 9:00 pm every Thursday for the duration of employment, flexible schedule for remaining hours
  • Market day organization including: infrastructure/site preparation, setup and teardown, onsite signage and other duties as assigned
  • Manage all market day financial transactions and information at the market table and after closing as required by the Executive Director
  • Inventory management of EFM merchandise
  • Communications
  • Miscellaneous tasks as assigned on an as needed basis by the Executive Director
  • On-site volunteer coordination under the supervision of the Market Manager and Executive Director
  • Weekly meetings
  • Always acts professionally both internally as a team member and externally as a promoter
  • Other duties as described by the Executive Director
