We have an exciting opportunity available at Maplewood Farm for a Supervisor to oversee the planning and administration of the operations and programs at Maplewood Farm to ensure the health and safety of all employees and visitors, and the care and wellbeing of a variety of domestic and other animals to enable Maplewood Farm to continue to be a popular tourist destination on the North Shore.
Reporting to the Manager, Parks, you will lead a small team of employees, as well as a number of volunteers, and be responsible for all employee related matters, including hiring, performance management, scheduling, and health and safety. You will oversee all animal care and health programs for the animals on the farm, including ensuring recognized veterinary practices are observed, assisting veterinarians during procedures and administering medications and treating emergencies on the farm. You will also be responsible for all the farm buildings and grounds, including; cleaning, repair, maintenance, and security, and will obtain services of private contractors as required.
You will oversee the budget for the farm, including preparation and maintenance, and ensure appropriate resources are available to effectively promote and market the farm to the public. You will also participate in the development of strategy and business plans for growing Maplewood Farm as a regional tourist attraction. You will plan public events and displays, create and implement new programs and value added features for the farm, prepare promotional materials, respond to and participate in media events on site, determine appropriate advertising avenues and build relationships and partnerships with applicable private or volunteer organizations.
You have completed post-graduate courses related to farm operations and marketing, and have a minimum of five to seven years’ experience working at a public farm, zoo or public attraction, along with demonstrated supervisory and/or management experience. You will have solid leadership, communication and organizational skills, along with sound judgement, considerable knowledge of health and safety requirements and extensive knowledge of animal husbandry. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required.
