The Sustainable Agriculture degree program at KPU provides students with a unique learning experience designed in recognition of the need for both practical and academic training that addresses the pressing issues in our food system such as climate change and social justice in addition to the production of food. Students are immersed in a setting which fosters experiential learning through classroom, lab and field-based research and teaching. Graduates of the program will be equipped with expertise and skills in food production, policy and business needed to provide leadership in addressing issues around the development of sustainable agri-food systems.

Within KPU, the Faculty of Science and Horticulture (FSH) has over 1,500 full-time students and over 200 faculty members and instructors from across the natural and applied sciences. FSH includes nine departments and over 30 programs at the undergraduate level, with offerings at four KPU campuses. The Faculty is also home to two Canada Research Chairs: Dr. Paul Adams as Sherman Jen Research Chair and Dr. Karen Davidson as Canada Research Chair in Nutrition Informatics.

FSH offers experiential learning through hands-on curriculum, co-ops and research collaboration opportunities with KPU’s Institute for Sustainable Horticulture (ISH), Institute for Sustainable Food Systems (ISFS), and Applied Genomics Centre (AGC). As well, our faculty is home to over a hectare of horticulture field lab, a working farm and a state-of-the art teaching brewery, which has been recognized internationally and locally, winning BC Brewery of the Year in 2019.

Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Department of Sustainable Agriculture, is currently seeking Non-Regular Type 1 (Contract) Instructors to teach in the following areas: Small scale animal production, Soil Science, Weed Management, and Agricultural business management. These courses are part of the Bachelor of Applied Science in Sustainable Agriculture.

Fall semester commences September 1 and runs until December 31, 2022. Spring semester commences January 1 and runs until April 30, 2023:

  • AGRI 2220: Soil Stewardship and Management – Fall Semester
  • AGRI 2320: Advanced Soil Management – Fall Semester
  • AGRI 3260 Integrated Animal Agriculture – Fall or Spring Semester
  • AGRI 3135: Business of Agriculture (6 credits spring) – Fall or Spring Semester
  • AGRI 3591: Weed Management (Special topics course) – Fall or Spring

Successful candidates will be responsible for covering the relevant topics in the context of sustainable agriculture and food systems and should include expertise in sustainable production systems and agroecology. The successful candidates will work with the Department faculty in the development and delivery of these courses and support with content will be provided.

The successful applicant will lecture and converse fluently in English, and possess at a minimum, a Master’s degree (PhD in related field is preferred). Demonstrated record of teaching experience is required.
