Positions: Farmers for Organic Greenhouse Operation
Company: Loco Fields
Location: Stratford, Ontario
Hours: full time positions, either seasonal or all year round

Loco Fields is an organic (non-certified) vegetable grower located just outside Stratford, Ontario. Our focus is on the production of leafy greens, micro greens, ginger, turmeric, heirloom tomatoes, specialty vegetables, and other salad crops. Our products are made available through farmer's markets in London, Toronto & Stratford, through our own distribution to restaurants in southern Ontario and via small independent retailers and grocery stores. We also have recently begun sales with distributors and other wholesalers.

Our primary growing is now carried out directly in the soil under 60,000 sq ft of unheated tunnels and greenhouses, this includes a 2000sg ft micro greens operation in a heated greenhouse.

With the focus on greenhouse culture, we operate all year and are less dependant on large single harvests. Our busiest seasons are spring and fall with time for vacation during summer and winter months! We are constantly evolving with new projects and ever-changing crops, and have an appetite for the unusual. Crop trials and research are a big part of what keeps us fresh!

There is a strong focus on sustainability on the farm, we have always grown our produce organically without the use of any chemicals. Soil health and the future of the planet, on the whole, are not an afterthought. We use minimal fossil fuels, and choose humans over machines. Worker health both, mental and physical are both equally as important. We strive to be low waste and are always striving for better, more sustainable packaging or better yet no packaging.

We are seeking farm/greenhouse workers to join our team.  We are looking for hard working individuals with strong work ethics, reliability and an interest in growing vegetables.  This is a great opportunity for someone who would like to pursue a career in the food industry, and in particular farming food. There is plenty of room for advancement on the farm for the right individual. We would prefer experience with this line of work, but would consider individuals that come from lateral industries like other food businesses. Although some of growing happens on benches, much of it still happens directly in the ground, so it can be physically demanding - bending, kneeling, lifting and the ability to lift and carry up to 40lbs.

This is a full time position, either seasonal or all year around.  Hours vary with the seasons, but typically run 8-5 Monday to Friday with some rotating weekend work to assist in watering, opening and closing the greenhouses.  We are hiring immediately, and transportation is required

Wages will vary depending on experience or skills. There is a potential for wage increase after the first 3 months for those with no previous experience.

Job Qualifications and Requirements

Interest in farming, serious gardening or plants is critical. You should have a passion for food, whether growing, cooking, or just eating!
Although we don’t expect you to stay hunched over all day, this can be a physically demanding job - you must be able to bend, kneel, squat, lift and work in various positions.

We do our best to work with the weather - you must be prepared and able to work in all types of conditions. Greenhouses can get hot during the day and are cool in the winter. Rain and snow are less of a factor with our operation
We are looking for motivated people that are reliable and have a strong work ethic. Must have strong attention to detail, as we strive to produce high-quality products. The farm is a business and other people and plants are depending on us. Must have reliable transportation.

Communication and working as a team are important. The farm can be fun and you will be spending some time alongside your co-workers. We try to build a good team of people that are like-minded and enjoy being around each other. Being able to work alone and make decisions is just as critical, dealing with living things and weather factors often require being able to think on the fly.

There are plenty of opportunities on the farm for personal and job growth. You will get out of it what you put into it. We welcome input and encourage you to share your thoughts and ideas. This can be an exciting opportunity for the right person. ***Employees are entitled to a discount on our produce and grocery items. Check out our site at !
