We're creating an alternative, locally-based, food system in Toronto. We partner with local organic farms and like-minded local businesses and artisans, and deliver organic, small-scale grown or produced food that tastes really good. We deliver directly to our members’ homes throughout the GTA, on a weekly basis from our 20,000 sq. ft headquarters located in East Toronto. We are a fast growing company working to realize some exciting and ambitious plans in the coming few years. The Role:

The Chief Operating Officer will work directly with our CEO and be part of the Senior Leadership Team who are charting an exciting roadmap for significant growth. This role will have full ownership for re-conceptualizing the warehouse operations at Mama Earth, moving us from start-up to a scalable logistics company. We are a well-run machine, though optimized for ‘precedented times’. We are seeking an experienced warehouse logistics thought-leader who can help us re-think operations to enable our planned epic growth plans. We need someone who also wants to make a difference, and will be jazzed about building an amazing culture, re-engineering it to accelerate growth, while maintaining our scrappy start-up DNA.


  • Re-conceptualize our operational processes through each step in the journey of a customer order, from receiving product into the warehouse to delivery to our customers’ homes. Test and evolve space, processes, and logistics to enable our growth aspirations.
  • Lead our warehouse space strategy, including capacity mapping, process reengineering, new warehouse space requirements and optimal set-up, lease negotiations, new space designing, and renovation and/or move coordination.
  • Evolve our technology toward a warehouse management system, integrating it with our customer e-commerce management system to create a seamless, industry-leading system from end-to-end.
  • Build operations & logistics team capabilities into a competitive differentiator. Identify skill and talent needs, gaps and any operational inefficiencies.
  • Help transition the organization into a unionized environment, and help establish a highly productive and collaborative relationship between management, labour, and union representatives.
  • Work closely with SLT to develop actionable operational business strategies and plans that ensure alignment with short- and long-term objectives. Also develops key performance indicators and formal reporting that identify opportunities, gaps and, corrective measures.
  • Will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, working closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Curation Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Chief People Officer, and Board of Directors to envision the future for Mama Earth and achieve all business, customer, and employee engagement metrics.


  • You are a seasoned warehouse logistics professional with at least 8+ years in a leadership role.
  • You have 5+ years of experience in pick/pack/delivery in a retail/e-commerce business.
  • You have obtained a Post-secondary degree in business or a related field
  • You have lead teams with a predominantly hourly warehouse-based workforce.
  • You have a proven track record of leading change, ideally having helped a small/medium-sized company scale.
  • You are experienced in operating in a unionized environment and adept at fostering productive relationships.
  • You’re in it for the long haul and are experienced at thriving in a fast-paced, startup environment.
  • You’re able to operate up high and down low - high-level focus on the bigger picture while getting in the weeds to ensure flawless execution.
  • You excel in a cross-functional role - gaining consensus across multiple teams and ensuring goals are accomplished within agreed-upon timelines.
  • You excel at communicating effectively and empowering others.
  • You’re a creative problem solver who is adept at rolling up your sleeves and working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • You don’t take yourself too seriously and believe a winning culture is an essential ingredient to building a great company.
  • Ideally you love all things food!
