About the Mobile Food Market
The Mobile Food Market (MFM) is a year-round program that sells healthy and affordable fruit and vegetables to residents of HRM who experience barriers to accessing food. The MFM operates across the HRM including East Dartmouth, North Dartmouth, Spryfield, Fairview, Clayton Park and North End Halifax. With the outbreak of COVID-19, our services have had to change, switching to a focus on programs that can continue to safely operate even as provincial health restrictions shift. We are looking for volunteers who are keen to help us with our regular deliveries of fresh, healthy food on Wednesday mornings. These deliveries will be going to service organizations around the city who are hosting free food programming for community members (ie. free food boxes, lunch and snack programs, community markets).
Jump into the truck with us as we deliver produce to various sites in the HRM! This role requires a significant amount of heavy lifting as we load and unload the truck. This is a great role for those like to work with their hands and sing along to the radio!
Where and When
Wednesday deliveries happen every week and go from 8am to noon. We’re looking for 1-3 people who can join our delivery team, committing to a shift at least once every 3 weeks. Shifts begin and end in Burnside. If you are interested in this position but are not able to get to Burnside, please let us know and we may be able to sort out an alternative meet up location.
What you Bring
First and foremost, you’re reliable. You have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, have good attention to detail and are comfortable acting as a friendly face of the Mobile Food Market.
How We’ll Support You
MFM staff will be present for all shifts and will provide on-the-job training. We’ll also let you choose the radio station!
If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you! Contact our coordinator, Esther at email@example.com or (902) 802-7152. For more information on the MFM, visit mobilefoodmarket.ca.
