VOLUNTEER POSITION

Position: Food Hub Volunteers
Organization: South Vancouver Neighborhood House
Location: Vancouver, BC

South Vancouver Neighbourhood House has recently established a central Food Hub to ensure our neighbors throughout Sunset, Victoria-Fraserview and Killarney have access to food that meets their cultural and dietary requirements. We currently provide weekly grocery boxes to households across these three neighborhoods, striving to provide accessible food service for all our community members. We are expanding and looking for volunteer involvement to match the community's needs during COVID-19. Most of our operations are entirely volunteer run, from sorting and packaging food, to delivery/pick up, registration and community engagement events.

Listed below are the positions we are currently seeking support in!

  1. Monday 9:30 - 12:30pm (Box loading and food boxes set-up): In this shift, the volunteer will prepare the boxes so that the afternoon volunteers can package the non-perishable packaging.
  2. Thursday 9:30 - 11:30 am (Box loading Helper): In this shift, the volunteer will help prepare the carts and boxes for deliveries and pick-ups.
  3. Friday 11:00 - 2:30 pm (non-perishable packaging): In this shift, the volunteer will help prepare the boxes with stickers and package the perishable and non-perishable items.
  4. Friday 10 - 11:30 (Language Support 2: Cantonese ): In this shift,the volunteer who can speak Cantonese will help during the food distribution process and support Cantonese-speaking community members who may have any questions. (if you speak a different Chinese dialect- Toisan, Fookien, we appreciate that support as well!)
  5. Friday 10:00 - 11:30 (Language Support 2: Mandarin): In this shift, the volunteer who can speak Mandarin will help during the food distribution process and support Mandarin-speaking community members who may have any questions. (if you speak a different Chinese dialect- Toisan, Fookien, we appreciate that support as well!)
  6. Friday 10:15 - 11:30 (Language Support 1: Tagalog ): In this shift,the volunteer who can speak Tagalog will help during the food distribution process and support Tagalog-speaking community members who may have any questions or want information about other SVNH programs.
  7. Work from Home- Flex Hours (Mandarin/Cantonese Speaking Registrar): This volunteer will be responsible for registering Chinese-speaking households over the phone for the Food Hub weekly grocery hamper. This role includes taking dietary preferences/restrictions, food requests, and accessibility needs. (if you speak a different Chinese dialect- Toisan, Fookien, we appreciate that support as well!)
