To whom it may concern:

In my volunteer capacity as Coordinator of the Garden Ministry at St. Gabriel's Passionist Parish in Toronto, I have had the unique opportunity to work closely with Robert Cordy for the last three years. Three years ago, the parish embarked on a garden revitalization project and invited Robert to submit a proposal. Two members of the steering committee were familiar with his work and thought it would be a good fit with the ecological vision of St. Gabriel's. This vision of a community living a mutually beneficial relationship with nature is embodied in the church architecture and there was a desire to have embodied in the new gardens as well.

Robert's proposal was for gardens developed on the principles of permaculture, using techniques such as Hugelkultur to achieve low-maintenance, self-nurturing installations. It also included education of the Garden Ministry and parish members on post-project maintenance of the gardens. An additional component of his proposal was mentoring and training youth by direct engagement in the project.

Over the past three years Robert has committed himself to this vision and project. The parish is now enjoying a beautiful and abundant urban orchard in our north garden, and by this fall will celebrate a south garden that combines both orchard trees and indigenous meadow flowers. Already, the butterflies, bees and birds are abundant.

Each year of the project, Robert and his young team have provided the parish and local community with workshops. His vast creativity, energy and enthusiasm have inspired both the Garden Ministry members and the parish as a whole. Robert has worked closely with us in the ministry as well as the steering committee and is always willing to accommodate our wishes and concerns.

In addition to creating garden spaces uniquely appropriate to St. Gabriel's, Robert has also made a huge contribution towards building community in our parish for which we are deeply grateful.

2020 Permaculture Aprentice Reference:

To whom it may concern,

The intention of this letter is to endorse the character of Robert Cordy, as I had the opportunity to work with Robert for three years. In that time, I enjoyed his colourful, bighearted personality. Ever observant, energetic and productive, the potential for Robert’s creative energy became immediately apparent upon our introduction.

More than anything, Robert’s spirit is defined by his generosity. On a regular basis, he went out of his way to ensure that I had everything I needed in order to realize successful outcomes. His contribution of time and other resources always seemed boundless. As a leader, he proved more than capable of accepting feedback and encouraging alternatives modes of thought. His emphasis on diversity and inclusion were considered in great detail. To integrate and inspire others remained a constant priority, no matter the expense.

Robert’s passion and enthusiasm are seldom in short supply, continuing to inspire myself and others. My experience with Robert has been one of great opportunity and personal growth, continuing to yield fruit beyond the scope of our professional relationship.

Kind regards,
