Position: Landscape Gardener Helper
Organization: Cabot Shores Wilderness Resort and Retreat

Location: near Englishtown/Indian Brook, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia
Housing: Staff Rental Housing and access to the kitchen are available onsite.

Cabot Shores is a Wilderness Resort & Retreat Centre that offers lodgings, food, outdoor & cultural adventures, wellness services, meeting & conference facilities and various types of retreats in an eco-friendly environment.

Job Role and Responsibilities:
● The Landscape Gardener is key to helping provide a rich, organic garden full of vegetables, herbs and flowers. He/she will coordinate, harvest & wash this produce in the form of ingredients for the Bistro.
● The Landscape Gardener will also be involved with chickens and maintenance for other sources of compost for the garden..
● Another area for tending is the apple orchard. The Landscape Gardener will prepare the orchard and help to cultivate apples which are picked and pressed by guests
into apple cider. 
● The Landscape gardener will also assist with mowing lawns and general landscaping as needed

Skills involve following directions, working hard physically, coordinating with other teams and showing leadership in educating other staff, guests and partners in
sustainable gardening.

Essential Qualifications:

● Excellent communication skills and outgoing personality
● Participate in a fun and dynamic team environment
● Enjoy working on her/his own as well as part of a team
● Ability to work under pressure, multi-task, prioritise tasks and take initiative

● Pay attention to detail and fully complete tasks, including returning tools to proper places
● Be coachable and willing to learn
● Enjoy being in a rural area of Cape Breton
● Knowledge of local Cape Breton Island cultural events and outdoor activities

General information:

● the applicant must be a Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, International Student or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment.
● Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
● Flexible schedule with split shift

Staff Rental Housing and access to the kitchen are available onsite.
