VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Needed: Peer Mentors
Organization: Environmental Youth Alliance
Location: Vancouver, BC

Are you looking to develop your environmental leadership skills?

Are you curious about environmental education and working with youth?

Then the Peer Mentors program is for you!

Peer Mentors work alongside experienced EYA staff to run our land-based education programs for high school-aged youth in Strathcona Community Gardens. You bring your experience and passion and we provide skill-building workshops, one-on-one mentorship with an EYA educator, and opportunities to practice facilitation and group leadership.

We ask that Peer Mentors commit to the following:

Dates: June 8th - August 20th, 2024

This program consists of two parts:

  • Skill-building workshops: Training weekend June 8 & 9, then weekly Thursday evening sessions starting June 20 (5:00 - 7:30 pm)
  • Peer Mentoring: Weekly program support, 1 day/week from 10 AM - 3 PM (days vary according to the program you are supporting; learn more about the programs at https://eya.ca/program/nature-stewards/)

This program is open to youth ages 18-25, with exceptions on a case-by-case basis. At EYA, we lift up diversity in both humans and non-humans alike! We encourage and prioritize applications from individuals who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Colour), LGBTQ2S+, and those facing other barriers.

Lunch on peer mentoring day is provided and bus tickets are available.

An honorarium of up to $200 is provided. This will be sent upon program completion via e-transfer.
