Organic farming

Hiring: Lead Farm Crew Member
Farm: Rumar Farm

Location: Fonthill, Niagara Region, Ontario
On-site accomodations: On-farm room and board are available (for a fee)

Rumar Farm is seeking a motivated Lead Farm Crew Member to join us for the 2026 growing season. We are a certified organic farm located in Fonthill, Ontario, operating a 30-member CSA, weekly farmers’ market stand, restaurant sales, and an online farm pickup store.

Our farm is unique in that we are the only certified organic peach and fruit grower in Ontario, and we were recently recognized with the Market Garden Innovator Award from Ontario Organic. This role offers the opportunity to work closely with the farm owners and play an important part in the daily operation of a diversified organic farm.

The lead crew member will participate in all aspects of farm production including planting, cultivation, harvesting, irrigation, and post-harvest handling of certified organic produce and fruit. The role also includes coordinating harvests for CSA, market, and restaurant orders, helping prepare for weekly markets, and supporting the smooth day-to-day workflow of the farm. Because our team is small, the position carries meaningful responsibility and offers broad exposure to real farm management.

We are looking for someone reliable, observant, and comfortable taking initiative in the field. In addition to hands-on farm work, the lead crew member will help maintain crop observations and seasonal records through a journal-style field log, documenting crop performance and notable field conditions throughout the season.

Applicants should enjoy physical outdoor work and have a genuine interest in organic agriculture and food systems. We aim to maintain a relaxed, respectful working environment where curiosity, attention to detail, and pride in growing excellent organic food are valued.

The position runs approximately mid-April through mid-October, with 30–35 hours per week at $20/hour. On-farm room and board are available (for a fee), and team members are encouraged to enjoy the farm’s produce throughout the season. Because this role is supported through a youth employment program, applicants must be Canadian residents aged 30 or younger.

What you’ll learn at Rumar Farm

  • Certified organic fruit and vegetable production systems
  • Organic orchard management, including peaches and mixed fruit crops
  • Managing harvest and post-harvest handling for CSA, restaurants, farmers’ markets, and on-farm sales
  • Crop observation and seasonal record-keeping through a farm journal system
  • The workflow and logistics of a small, diversified organic farm.

We live within walking distance of the town of Fonthill, and a short drive to hiking and biking trails, and Niagara Falls is a 15 minute drive.
