Type: educational exchange (not a job)
Host: Phoenix Farm East Community

Location: Salt Spring Island BC (accommodations provided)
Term: A minimum 3-4 months stay is preferred and longer term accomodations are seasonally provided.

Become part of a creative Agricultural Tourism educational exchange and have a community experience on a bright and sunny open landscape 18 acres Homestead and Farm with fruit orchards, vineyards, swimming and watering ponds and a common playing field and regenerating bio-diversity.

We use only organic materials and permaculture and sustainable practices on our growing Homestead. We encourage native edible, medicinal plants to re wild and flourish for harvesting. Our aim is sustainability of our local community growing produce, vegetables, fruits and berries, herbs, flowers, and stalks and roots and for fresh and value-added farm products like juice, fermentations and seed saving.

Our work-trade season starts with pruning before spring at the end of February. Through the spring we'll work together preparing, expanding and tending to Veggie Gardens, Herb and Flower gardens right up to the Fruit Tree and Berry seasons harvest of Apples and Grapes in the Fall. We'll be building soil, worm farm, bio-charm and building mulch and compost. Preparing gardens for overwintering and removing invasive species can be done as the weather permits up to the Winter.

Alternative and sustainable building projects using eco and innovative design are on the go for joining in community projects as we add more shelters for Agri-Tourism events and workshops.

This work exchange is a volunteer position for 15 hrs /week in exchange for accommodations. This will be based on a 3-day work week of 5 hr/day during your stay. Seasonal outdoor kitchens and facilities are shared.
