Position: Agrologist
Organization: Ducks Unlimited Canada
Location: Hybrid/Remote – anywhere in BC with a preference for William’s Lake or Kamloops

Position Details: Full Time Permanent (New Position)
Salary Range:
Salary range at $66,100 - $82,600, based on a 35-hour work week.

What You Will Do

You will coordinate and implement agriculture-related strategies for provincial conservation programs. You will be responsible for oversight, delivery, and continuous improvement of various agriculture-related conservation/extension programs in British Columbia, including cover cropping, forage enhancement, agricultural best management practices, ranch/rangeland projects and lease/license agreements with local producers to support waterfowl populations.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and coordinate delivery of agricultural conservation initiatives (e.g. cover crops, ranch/rangeland partnerships, soil based agricultural stewardship) within the province of BC.
  • Advise on investment priorities in DUC’s current BC agriculture program and on new program development strategies
  • Support the development of measures and tracking systems for agricultural conservation programs.
  • Support agricultural policy and communications in collaboration with regional communications specialist, contractors, and conservation staff
  • Track and report grant and lease revenue and expenditures for agricultural project and programs in conjunction with Conservation and Finance leaders.
  • Support evaluation of the implementation of Provincial agricultural business plans.
  • Travel, as well as occasional evening/weekend work, will be required.

Requirements

  • Minimum three to four (3-4) years’ experience in the Agricultural field along with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture or similar discipline; an equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Professional Agrologist accreditation is required (or be eligible for membership with the British Columbia Institute of Agrologists).
  • Experience with livestock, forage production and field crop practices.
  • Firm understanding of agronomic/financial business practices of the farm/ranching sector.
  • Strong planning, reporting and project management skills.
  • Fundamental understanding of GIS, and MS Office
  • Proficient with setting priorities and managing numerous projects on tight deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to converse with public audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills conducive to negotiation, mediation, consensus building and conflict resolution to support the resolution of land and natural resource conflicts and challenges.
  • Able to deal with complex situations, ambiguities and uncertainty.
