Role: Assistant Administrator (rural Museum & Land Trust)
Organization: Langford Conservancy
Eligibility: Canadian citizen, permanent resident or refugee, 30 years or younger

Location: between Brantford and Ancaster, Ontario
Relocate: We accept candidates from anywhere in Canada. Optional rental housing.
Housing: option of on-site rental accommodation at Hearts Content Organic Farm

We are a not-for-profit organization that operates the Langford Schoolhouse as a rural community hub.

We also work to protect farmland and local ecosystems and foster a welcoming and inclusive rural community.

We are collecting digital histories of former students who attended the Langford Schoolhouse and working to create a museum. We are also working on policies and procedures to acquire land trust status, and to help farmers and landowners to protect their land by placing a conservation easement on it.

Are you interested in helping to do interviews and background archival research on the history of the Langford community?

Would you like to help our community to learn about the original treaties with First Nations?

Do you have any experience helping to work on administrative issues with another land trust or museum?

Would you like to help foster a more inclusive rural community for First Nations, Original pioneer families and newcomers, through community suppers?

Are you interested in outreach to migrant farm workers and temporary foreign workers?

Job Description:

You would be involved in helping with the following:

  • Helping to gather, scan and categorize archival photos and documents to create a digital archive for the Langford community
  • Outreach to our rural community to gather documents (First Nations, settler, newcomers), and to organize community suppers.
  • Outreach to migrant farm workers (community meals, food redistribution)
  • Facilitating community meetings related to gathering archival documents and our agricultural history.
  • Preparatory work to meet the requirements to apply for charitable status as a land trust (charity application, policies, procedures, governance, forms) and to set up a museum at the Langford Schoolhouse.
  • Care of the Langford Schoolhouse – basic cleaning.
  • Social media updates
  • Helping with administrative work: organizing files, bookkeeping, creating posters.

Application Details:

  • must be between 18 & 30 years old and legally allowed to work in Canada (a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have been granted refugee status),
  • include a cover letter explaining why you are interested in this position and any relevant experience, and

  • Term: 2 months with possibility of ongoing work

  • Eligibility: Must be between 18 & 30 years old.
  • Pay: $22/hour, 35 hours/week
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday, occasional evening, or weekend
  • Must be able to commute or relocate before starting work (required).

Assets:

  • experience working in a museum and doing archival work
  • WordPress, Canva, Mailchimp (Cakemail), Excel
  • Driver’s license,
  • Experience working with a land trust
  • Experience with preparing meals for large numbers
  • Bonus (not required): Spanish
