Vancouver Pushpanjali Flower Farm in Burnaby, BC is seeking one assistant baker!

FULL-TIME ASSISTANT BAKER - Commercial Kitchen & Farmers Market

We are seeking one full-time assistant baker to join our growing team! Our team of 3-5 people work hard and enjoy the reward of bringing beautiful organic flowers and vegetarian baked offerings to the world.

OUR STORY

Vancouver Pushpanjali Flower Farm is a non-profit, ecologically-sustainable 1+ acre flower farm at the ISKCON Vancouver Hare Krishna Temple. We cultivate over 16 types of flowers both in field and high tunnels, following ecological farming practices to provide flowers for community, Temple offerings, and festivals. We are expanding our Farmers Market this year to introduce more vegetarian baked items.

POSITION DETAILS

  • Full-time (30-35 hours/week) from June 1st - August 29th, 2026
  • Potential part-time extension through Fall/Winter
  • Tuesday to Sunday schedule, including evenings farmers markets
  • Wage: $19.50/hour + 4% vacation pay + 5 paid sick days (after 90 days)
  • Benefits: Free vegetarian lunch and take-home flowers

ELIGIBILITY (Canada Summer Jobs Position)

  • Age 18-30
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada (Canadian citizens, permanent residents or refugee status with valid work permit holders)
  • International students not eligible

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare vegetarian traditional items including samosas, pakoras, cinnamon buns, barfis, ladoos, jalebis, and Indian sweets following established recipes
  • Prepare and package vegetarian baked goods for medium-scale Sunday Feast events (500-1000 servings) and large festivals (10,000+ servings)
  • Set up and operate vegetarian food booth at weekly farmers markets, preparing fresh items and managing display
  • Support weekly Food For Life program by preparing free vegetarian meals and baked goods for distribution in Downtown Eastside
  • Handle vegetarian catering orders for small groups including menu planning, preparation, and packaging for pickup
  • Maintain strict cleanliness standards and follow all food safety and preparation guidelines
  • Engage with customers at markets and events, handle sales transactions, explaining ingredients and dietary information

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Interest in or experience with vegetarian baking/hospitality/flowers/horticulture
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25kg
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and in teams
  • Customer service skills
  • Baking/Kitchen/farm/outdoor work experience is an asset
