Position: Assistant Market Manager

The Cabbagetown Farmers Market is seeking a reliable, organized, and community-minded Assistant Market Manager to support weekly market operations during the 2026 season.

Celebrating its 25th season, the Cabbagetown Farmers Market is Toronto’s oldest park-based farmers market. Located beside Riverdale Farm in Riverdale Park West, the market brings together local farmers, food producers, musicians, neighbours, and visitors every Tuesday from May through October.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys community events, local food systems, public engagement, and hands-on coordination work.

Primary Responsibilities

• Oversee weekly market setup from approximately 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. every Tuesday
• Support vendor arrivals, placement, and operational needs
• Help ensure the market site is organized, welcoming, and operating smoothly before opening
• Coordinate with the Market Manager and volunteers as needed
• Assist with occasional vendor outreach and recruitment
• Support light marketing and promotional activities, including community outreach
• Help troubleshoot onsite issues in a calm and professional manner

Qualifications

• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Friendly, dependable, and proactive
• Able to lift and move light market equipment when required
• Interest in farmers markets, food systems, sustainability, or community-building is an asset
• Experience in events, hospitality, retail, community programming, or markets is welcome but not required

Details

• Tuesdays from May to October
• Approximately 2–4 hours weekly onsite, with occasional additional support hours as needed
• Compensation: $20/hour

The market is located in Riverdale Park West in Toronto’s Cabbagetown neighbourhood.
