The Role:

To support our major retail customers in Canada and in the US, we have been on an expansion journey at our facility. This includes growing our team.

Currently, we’re looking for a highly motivated and self-driven team player, who has a roll-up-the-sleeve mentality, to join our Operations Team as Production Supervisor. This is a permanent full-time position and will report directly to the Production Manager.

Summary of Role:

The Production Supervisor should be highly competent and able to comprehend complex operations. They will provide operational leadership to the production team to ensure the execution of daily tasks and activities. They are responsible for monitoring production operations, organizing production team members, optimizing workflow, and analyzing the efficiency of the manufacturing processes, all while ensuring maximum quality output in a safe and profitable manner.

The Production Supervisor duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Requisition materials and supplies for the production line
  • Lead a safety-first and continuous improvement culture
  • Maintain a safe work environment by enforcing Company policies and guidelines, including strict adherence to food safety and health and safety systems
  • Communicate to the production team the Company goals and expectations; plan, monitor, and evaluate workflow to achieve optimal efficiency
  • Manage daily/weekly/monthly workflow to achieve scheduling and output requirements
  • Resolve production issues and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality
  • Implement cost-saving strategies and techniques
  • Report and record all non-conformances; escalate to Quality Assurance (QA) and/or Human Resources (HR) when necessary
  • Prepare production and other reports
  • Lead, coach, and assess team member performance and conduct Company performance reviews as scheduled
  • Assist in training new team members
  • Advise on personnel decisions such as hiring, promotions or otherwise
  • Lead and co-chair the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC); responsible for conducting scheduled committee meetings, facility safety tours, incident/accident investigations and reporting, etc.
  • Oversee equipment set up, ensure daily checklists are completed and submitted (i.e. plant checklist, production report, machine safety log, cleaning log, temperature log, etc.)
  • Trouble shoot and perform minor repairs to equipment, report major equipment issues to management and maintenance department
  • Work with Quality Assurance to ensure product verification checks are done at regular intervals, as required
  • Maintain accurate inventory control of raw materials, packaging, sanitation chemicals, and finished goods; ensure production areas are equipment with supplies to minimize production stoppage or downtime
  • Maintain accurate log of product batching and inventory in SAP B1
  • Using SAP create and modify Bill of Materials (BOM’s) for semi-finished and finished products as required
  • Record packaging log for traceability and waste
  • Maintain clean work environment at all times
  • All other duties as assigned

Experience and Qualifications

  • 3 years of work experience in a food processing plant
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), and food safety standards and regulations
  • Proficient in MS Office programs
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Leadership skills to manage a food processing facility
  • Ability to effectively build, lead and manage a team
  • Knowledge of, and experience in, plant operations
  • Balance between detail oriented and ability to see big picture and connect the dots
  • Ability to work in a dynamic work environment with tight deadlines
  • Agile, nimble, resourceful
  • Roll-up the sleeves mentality
  • Continuous improvement mindset
  • Analytical skills to understand contexts and define/support the definition of action plans
