CRFAIR is a not-for-profit community based organization that acts as a coordinating backbone to a network of food, farm and health organizations (The Good Food Network) working to promote healthy and sustainable food systems in the Capital Region. We have three work experience placements available; these positions are funded with a United Way BC Work Experience Opportunities Grant.
Areas of work available include: Research, Events & Engagement, Youth Programming

The focus of grant funding is to support individuals who are recipients or eligible to receive income or disability assistance and who may have barriers to labour market participation.

To be considered for a position, and due to the nature of the grants, applicants must be:

  • BCEA recipient or qualified to receive assistance under the Employment and Assistance Act; or
  • On disability assistance or qualified to receive assistance under the Employment and Assistance for Persons with Disabilities Act; or
  • Hardship Assistance (HA) recipients
  • Income assistance through the Person with Persistent Multiple Barriers to Employment (PPMB) benefit
  • Qualified to receive assistance from a Treaty First Nation that is funded through the Federal Department of Crown–Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada; or o Qualified to receive assistance from a First Nation Administering Authority that administers an Income Assistance Program on behalf of Indigenous Services Canada.
  • Each participant must be legally able to work in British Columbia.
  • Indigenous people receiving equivalent federal assistance, can participate in work experience projects that occur only on Indigenous reserves or Treaty Lands.
  • Individuals who have previously completed a work experience placement through the Work Experience Opportunities Grant may participate again in limited circumstances.
  • Note: applicants do not need to be actively in receipt of income or disability assistance payments from the BC Ministry of Social Development and Social Innovation (see BC social supports eligibility) or the Government of Canada.
  • For applicants who are receiving income assistance, the stipend associated with this position is exempt from BC income eligibility calculations and will not affect the eligibility of individuals participating. Individuals will need to report income earned through the WEOG program for tracking purposes.

Youth Program Assistant - 1 position available

As the Youth Program Assistant will support our Youth Coordinator in delivering creative and engaging activities for the Youth Food Network. The position involves helping plan and deliver youth engagement activities, supporting podcast production with scheduling and logistics, assisting with meetings and events, and contributing to the overall success of our youth programming.
Ideal candidates value flexible, collaborative, creative work environments and are comfortable with both virtual and in person opportunities to create, connect and engage with the youth community. Comfortable with in person events. Some weekends and early evenings required

● Start date: Early to mid October 2025, until position is filled
● Length: 20 weeks
● Hours: 8 hrs / week (Total 160 hours)
● Pay (by stipend): $300 biweekly ($3,000 for the full 20-week period)

Physical, Mental Effort: Standing for long periods of time while hosting table at local events; Sit with arms unsupported while typing (computer work); lift and move up to 30lbs totes and event equipment; driving around Capital Region.
Mental and Sensory Effort: Focus on a variety of tasks; drive and follow directions, engage with the public, attend busy events, attend meetings in person and via video conference.
Work Environment: Office setting (shared office downtown and Esquimalt) and home office (often); indoor and outdoor event venues (occasional)


Research Assistant - 1 position available

The Research Assistant will work closely with our Leadership Team to continue the transformative anti-racism and equity-focused work within the Good Food Network (GFN) and the Youth Food Network (YFN), addressing systemic barriers and fostering inclusive governance, operations, and activities. The position involves gathering information, supporting report writing and layout, assisting with logistics and scheduling, organizing resources, and helping track progress.

Ideal candidates value flexible, collaborative, creative work environments and are comfortable with both virtual and in person opportunities to connect and engage with the community partners. Comfortable with in person settings and with making phone calls (occasional).

● Start date: between October 14 and 24, until position is filled
● Length: 20 weeks
● Hours: 8 hrs / week (Total 160 hours)
● Pay (by stipend): $300 biweekly ($3,000 for the full 20-week period)

Physical, Mental Effort: Sit with arms unsupported while typing (computer work); lift and move up to 15lbs event materials.
Mental and Sensory Effort: Focus on a variety of tasks; engage with the public, attend busy events, attend meetings in person and via video conference.
Work Environment: Office setting (shared office downtown and Esquimalt) and home office (often); indoor and outdoor event venues (occasional)


Event & Engagement Assistant - 1 position available

As Events Assistant you will support several key deliverables of CRFAIR’s 2025 Good Food Gathering. The Good Food Gathering in November brings together a wide cross section of community organizations, government, educators, funders, land stewards, students, growers, harvesters, and makers to be inspired by local change making efforts working at the intersection of food and culture, affordability, justice, and environment. The day digs into discussion on actions for collaboration and solutions that inform and advance our work, celebrates our champions and nourishes our relationships and spirits.

Ideal candidates value flexible, collaborative, creative work environments and are comfortable with both virtual and in person opportunities to create, connect and engage with the community. Must be comfortable speaking with the public. Some weekends and early evenings required

● Start date: Early to mid October 2025, until position is filled
● Length: 12 weeks
● Hours: 16 hrs / week (Total 240 hours)
● Pay (by stipend): $600 biweekly ($3,600 for the full 12-week period)

Physical, Mental Effort: Standing for long periods of time while hosting table at local events; Sit with arms unsupported while typing (computer work); lift and move up to 20lbs event materials; driving around Capital Region (occasional).
Mental and Sensory Effort: Focus on a variety of tasks; drive and follow directions, engage with the public, attend busy events, attend meetings in person and via video conference.
Work Environment: Office setting (downtown Victoria at theDock) and home office (often); indoor and outdoor event venues (occasional)
