Positions: Craft Sakemaking apprentice (2 positions)
Company: Artisan SakeMaker at Granville Island
Location: Granville Island, Vancouver, BC

Artisan SakeMaker at Granville Island is the first sake, rice wine producer in Canada. Our mission statement is 'Craft, Sustainable and Local'.

The company consists of two parts: The Sake Production Area and the Sake Tapas Tasting Room.

We are looking for two permanent, full-time sakemaker assistants to work on the production floor.

This position is only open to individuals with permanent residence status or Canadian citizenship.

Qualifications we would like to see are as follows:

  • Passion/interest in fermentation process
  • Some exposure/experience of fermentation-related work is preferred.
  • Physically fit, with the ability to lift and carry 30 kg rice bags.
  • The overall process of sake making includes rice milling, rice washing, koji making, fermentation with daily analysis, pressing and packaging.
  • Analytical mind and maths skills needed to prepare government reports and evaluate sake output.
  • Interest in Japanese culture is welcome.

The salary varies depending on qualifications and experience, ranging from $40,000 to $45,000 per annum. Parking to be paid by the company.

Candidates must live within commuting distance.
