Organization: Community Living North Halton
Location: Georgetown, Halton Region/GTA, Ontario

Pay: CA$62,316.00 - CA$65,041.00 per year

Community Living North Halton is an organization that supports individuals of all ages that have a developmental disability, and we are seeking a candidate that is interested in engaging in our Homesteading program within our organization.

This role will be responsible in maintaining the operations of our homesteading program which includes tasks of supporting and sustaining crops and livestock, production distribution within the organization and administrative planning. This role will also function as an educator to staff and individuals in our programs to understand the tasks, care, and responsibilities of this sustainable practice.

Responsibilities

  • Executing crop plans for planting and seedlings (crop rotation, seed selection, planting techniques)
  • Maintaining crops during the growing season (soil fertility management, pest control, irrigation systems)
  • Harvesting crops based on appropriate rotation - packing and distribution within donation programs.
  • Educating CLNH participants in the crop cycle process based on all learning levels.
  • Educating staff on the required support for maintenance of the homestead projects
  • Livestock care - included but not limited to chickens, ducks, goats - which includes feeding, housing, waste management, and enrichment.
  • Equipment and homestead maintenance - could include pest control, tool maintenance, and follow all safety and environmental standards.
  • Participation and collaboration with all teams, for planning, development, education, and social enterprise opportunities

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Experience / education in agriculture for a minimum of 2 years.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and budgeting and how to manage a homestead experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership and collaboration with working with and managing individuals.
  • Experience in working with individuals with a developmental disability is an asset.

Abilities/Skill Requirements:

  • Strong organizational and planning skills, which can manage and prioritize deadlines.
  • To be able to adjust and re-evaluate strategies as priorities change or the environment is not conducive to the original plan.
  • Creative thinker with strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Ontario Driver's License.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lifting over 30lbs, standing for extended periods of time, bending and kneeling

Experience:

  • homesteading: 2 years (preferred)

Licence/Certification:

  • G or G2 Drivers License (required)
