Job Description: Program Assistant
Organization: Sudbury Shared Harvest
Location: Sudbury, Ontario

Sudbury Shared Harvest is a charitable organization with a mission to cultivate community health by connecting people, the food we eat and the land it comes from. We support people in gaining the knowledge, skills and resources they need to access or grow their own food in a way that enhances our urban environment.

This opportunity is proudly supported by Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation and is funded through the Workforce Development Program.

The candidate must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Is a new entrant into the work force, transitioning to a new career, or unemployed or underemployed and entering a new field
  • Have not previously participated in a NOHFC-funded internship;
  • Is at least 18 years of age; and
  • Reside, and are legally entitled to work, in Canada

Job Term: Full Time, One-Year Contract. Some evenings and weekend work is required. Two evenings per week + occasional Saturday.

Wage: $24.70/hr; 35 hrs/week for 52 weeks.

The Program Assistant will receive training to coordinate and deliver educational programming in both English and French.

Specific duties include:

  • Coordinate and deliver experiential education opportunities
  • Assist with promotion of volunteer activities
  • Plan volunteer activities
  • Host volunteer activities, including training and supervision of volunteers
  • Assist with preparing budgets
  • Research funding opportunities

Required qualifications, knowledge and experience:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in both English and French
  • Experience working with children and/or youth
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, set priorities, and adhere to deadlines
  • Valid Ontario Driver's License

Not required, but helpful:

  • Experience or strong interest in teaching (formal or informal)
  • Experience or strong interest in urban agriculture, food gardening or related
  • Experience with scheduling and/or coordinating events or activities
  • Experience working with volunteers and/or non-profit projects
  • Access to own vehicle (you will be reimbursed for expenses when use of own vehicle is needed)
