Position: Cow-op Order Support & Pickup Facilitator

Cow-op is a farmer – and food-processor – owned co-operative connecting Cowichan Valley residents with fresh, local food – year-round. Like a farmers market that lives online, our non-profit platform makes it easy for people to shop directly from local growers, producers, and makers each week. From seasonal produce and pasture-raised meats to fresh baking and more, everything offered through Cow-op is harvested, baked, or made right here in the Cowichan region. By shopping through Cow-op, customers nourish themselves and their communities while helping build a more resilient, sustainable local food system.

Position Overview:

This position is funded by the Government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs program. To be eligible, applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 30 and legally entitled to work in Canada. (International students are not eligible.)

We’re looking for a motivated and community-minded student to join our team for 8 weeks this summer (June 30–end of August), working full-time (35 hours per week). The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude, strong multitasking abilities, and excellent problem-solving skills. A mobile phone is required. A valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle are strong assets.

This role includes:

Warehouse & Order Fulfillment (3 days/week – Tues to Thurs):

  • Receiving and organizing products from local producers
  • Sorting and packing customer orders
  • Sanitizing delivery totes and prepping for distribution
  • Aggregating and delivering orders to customer pick-up points
  • Interacting with co-op members (farmers, food makers) and customers

Customer Service:

  • Facilitating a weekly order pick-up point
  • Providing friendly, clear communication to Cow-op customers
  • Possibility of delivering customer home delivery orders

Marketing & Outreach:

  • Participating in weekly Marketing Task Force meetings (Mondays)
  • Supporting key marketing initiatives
  • Helping create, edit, and share social media content
  • Assisting with occasional events or community outreach
  • Distributing marketing materials in the Cowichan Valley

This is a hands-on, dynamic role that offers insight into the inner workings of our local food system while building valuable skills in logistics, marketing, and community engagement.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Passionate about sustainability and the local food system
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced warehouse environment
  • Ability to lift boxes and work on your feet for extended periods
  • Attention to detail when sorting, packing, and tracking orders
  • Comfortable learning and using online tools or order management software
  • Familiar with Google Workspace
  • Organized, self-directed, and resourceful
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Graphic design and social media content creation skills an asset
  • Interest or skills in research, program evaluation and data entry an asset
