Hiring: Procurement & Aggregation Coordinator
Organization: Kootenay Food Council
Location: Hybrid – work from home and on-site when necessary.  Between Nelson, Castlegar and Trail, BC

About the Project

The Kootenay-Boundary Food Procurement Network is a collaborative initiative that supports regional food access organizations in pooling resources, strengthening purchasing power, and improving food access across the Kootenay and Boundary regions. The project pilots new ways to coordinate food procurement, aggregation, and recovery to better serve both rural and urban communities.

The Procurement & Aggregation Coordinator will play a central role in organizing purchasing activities, coordinating logistics, and supporting participating organizations to access more food, more equitably, and while reducing food waste. The coordinator will work closely and be supported by a team of 3 regional partner coordinators.

Location

This project will largely be done as remote work and will eventually include some travel and on-site tasks (locations may vary between Nelson, Castlegar and Trail)

Key Responsibilities

Network Coordination

  • Act as the primary contact for participating food access organizations, food hubs, and other partners.
  • Facilitate regular communications, check-ins, and meetings to align procurement efforts.
  • Support collaborative decision-making and relationship building across the network.
  • Outreach and coordinate volunteers

Procurement & Aggregation

  • Coordinate purchasing orders from multiple organizations to consolidate demand.
  • Liaise with regional producers, distributors, and suppliers to source food products.
  • Work with partner organizations on aggregation efforts to manage product listings, inventory, and distribution coordination.
  • Support food recovery opportunities by matching surplus food with community needs.

Logistics & Administration

  • Oversee ordering, invoicing, and documentation of procurement activities.
  • Track deliveries, product flows, and aggregation logistics across the region.
  • Maintain records of suppliers, products, and purchasing data.
  • Monitor budgets and ensure activities align with project requirements and funding agreements.

Community Impact & Reporting

  • Collect and summarize data on food distributed, organizations served, and community impacts.
  • Prepare reports and updates for funders, project partners, and the Kootenay Food Council.
  • Help identify gaps, challenges, and opportunities for scaling and sustainability.

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and coordination skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and partners.
  • Experience in food systems work, supply chain logistics, or community food programs (preferred).
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to support hands-on tasks as needed, such as meeting orders or recovered food deliveries, repacking products, and preparing items for distribution.
  • Ability to safely lift and move boxes weighing up to 50–60 lbs.
  • Familiarity with procurement processes, budgeting, and basic financial tracking.
  • Comfortable with digital tools and platforms.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a regional team.
  • Knowledge of the Kootenay-Boundary food system and community food access landscape is a strong asset.

Compensation & Term

  • Rate: Contract Position: $25.00 - $27.50 (depending on experience)
  • Hours: 20-25 hrs/week
  • Contract Term: Minimum 6 months, possible extension
