Market gardening, Organic & regenerative farming

Position: Farm Hand for the ‘Pivot Season’
Farm: Foxhole Farm

Location: Wellington County near Rockwood, Ontario
Accom: option for on-site room and board (see below)

The Context: Since 2012, we have operated on the belief that excellence in the boardroom and excellence in the soil are the same thing. Our 40-acre farm — a sanctuary of gardens, ponds, and forests — has supplied Michelin-star restaurants and served as a laboratory for regenerative practices.

But 2021 was a “hundred-year storm” for us. It caused waves that forced us to re-evaluate everything. Now, we are at the precipice.

The Pivot: 2026 is our year of redefinition. We are moving from a traditional commercial model to a diversified “Agro-Experience” ecosystem. Our goal is twofold:

  1. Absolute Food Security: Growing enough high-quality food to sustain the stewards of this land year-round.
  2. The New Revenue Stream: Launching our luxury yurt/wood-fired hot tub experience and hosting seasonal “Growth Days” and corporate team-building workshops.

The Role: I am looking for a Second-in-Command who wants to get their hands in the dirt and their head into the strategy. You aren’t just “labor”; you are the guardian of the soil while I build the bridges to our new future.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Maintaining the “Core Product”: Ensuring our market gardens and fruit orchards maintain the highest organic/regenerative standards.
  • Systems Management: Managing irrigation, soil health, and seasonal transitions with a “zero-waste” mindset.
  • The “Experience” Support: Assisting with the logistics of our agro-tourism and workshops—ensuring the “stage” (the farm) is as impeccable as the “performance.”
  • Walking the Lines: Working directly with me to “check the weather” of the farm and the business every morning.

This is for you if:

  • You are tired of “beginner-level” farming and want to see how a professional operation handles a massive strategic pivot.
  • You have a “Founder’s Mindset”—you see a broken irrigation line as a “bug” that needs a permanent fix, not a temporary patch.
  • You value “Knowledge Equity.” You’ll be mentored by an Executive Coach and Tech Leader who sees every farm chore as a masterclass in leadership.
  • You find beauty in the grit. You’re as comfortable discussing revenue streams as you are hilling potatoes.

The Exchange: This is a paid role at [10K plus room and board], but the real value is the “Open Book” management style. You will see the “why” behind every decision and participate in the rebuilding of a legacy farm.

The Practicalities  (The Logistics)

  • Location: [Wellington County near Rockwood, Ontario]
  • Term: Seasonal [June – September] with potential for year-round strategic involvement as we scale the Yurt & Workshop revenue.
  • Hours: [e.g., 35–40 hours/week]. We value "Deep Work" and efficiency over a "Burnout Culture."
  • Compensation: $25-30+/hour + Knowledge Equity. As an "Open Book" operation, you’ll have a front-row seat to the P&L and strategic pivots of a regenerative business.

Qualifications  (The "Systems" Brain)

While we hire for mindset, the land requires a specific baseline of competence:

  • The Intermediate Agrarian: You have 2+ seasons of experience in organic/regenerative market gardening. You know your way around a broadfork and a flame weeder.
  • Mechanical Aptitude: You can troubleshoot a basic irrigation leak or a small engine without waiting for instructions. You see tools as "hardware" that needs maintenance, not just use.
  • The "Hospitality" Eye: You understand that when we host a "Growth Day" for executives, the aesthetic of the farm is part of the product. You notice the crooked row or the stray shovel.
  • Physical Resilience: 40 acres is a masterclass in fitness. You enjoy the grit of the physical work as much as the strategy of the morning "line walk."

How to Apply:  The "Why" over the "What"

Don't just send a generic resume. I’m less interested in a list of everywhere you’ve ever pulled a weed and more interested in how you think.

Please send a brief cover letter or video that answers:

  1. The "Pivot" Perspective: Why does a diversified agro-tourism/food security model interest you more than a traditional CSA or wholesale model?
  2. The "Ripple" Example: Tell me about a time you identified a "bug" in a system (on a farm or elsewhere) and created a "permanent patch" rather than a temporary fix.
