PERMACULTURE FARMING

Hiring: Permaculture Farm Field Crew
Type: Full Season and Summer Positions
Pay: $17/hr *plus end of season bonus & weekly vegetable share*
Farm: ManoRun Organic Farm
Location: Greater Hamilton, Ontario

We are hiring for two positions:

  1. Full season field labourer (May 1st- mid November)
  2. Summer season field labourer (June-September 1)

Manorun Farm is looking for hard-working individuals to join our 2023 field crew. Prior farming experience is recommended, but related experience such as tree-planting, landscaping, construction, etc is also valued. You must have a decent base-line of physical stamina. This position requires the ability to lift heavy bins, lots of walking, kneeling, crouching and bending. This work can be quite strenuous on hands, wrists, knees, and back. There are plenty of repetitive jobs such as bundling carrots and weeding that require consistency and speed.

We are hard-workers who are passionate about providing quality and sustainable food to our community by continuously expanding our regenerative growing practices. At Manorun Farm, soil health is integral to everything we do. We believe that in order to grow healthy food we first have to grow healthy soil. We care for our soil through crop rotation, composting, decreasing tillage, cover cropping, and integrating livestock. All these methods help build our organic matter, increase biodiversity, which in turn provides us with more nutrient-dense crops. We do not use any synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or growth hormones. We are guided by organic regenerative agricultural practices that incorporate a larger set of guidelines. The majority of our vegetable production takes place on twenty acres of land that we have transitioned from a conventional farmland into an oak savannah. We have utilized permaculture design to create a food forest with swales to capture and store water. In between our tree lines, we sustainably grow our vegetables, rotationally graze our livestock, and grow cover crops, hay, and grains. We have been training and mentoring new farmers through our internship and staff positions for over 20 years. We value the educational component of the work we do and pride ourselves in offering a very well-rounded seasonal growing experience. For more information check out our website and social media
