Position: Part-time Retail Associate

• Hours: 15–24 hours per week, Availability Friday & Sunday evening required

Job Summary

Retail Associates are at the heart of Karma Co-op’s daily operations. They ensure the smooth running of the store, support and guide our working members, and help create a welcoming shopping environment for members and non-members alike.

Retail Associates report to the General Manager (or Assistant General Manager in their absence) and collaborate closely with other staff. They also liaise with the Member Records Coordinator on matters related to member labour and fees.

Friday evening and Sunday evening availability required.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive deliveries, check for discrepancies, and report issues promptly
• Store, price, and display products appropriately, including maintaining the produce section
• Keep store inventory software up-to-date with accurate pricing and ensure shelves reflect changes
• Educate the public about Karma Co-op, promote memberships, and assist with member and trial shopper enrollment
• Operate the cash register, count cash, prepare reports, and handle deposits securely
• Open and close the store efficiently, taking on additional responsibilities when member labour is absent
• Provide friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable customer service to members and non-members
• Supervise and assist in-store member labour, offering guidance and problem-solving as needed
• Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming store environment
• Complete other short-term tasks as requested by management, as workload allows

Qualifications

• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Comfortable with physical tasks such as lifting, stocking, and moving inventory
• Cash-handling and customer service experience an asset
• Commitment to co-operative values and interest in local and sustainable food
• Friday evening and Sunday evening availability preferred
