Camp Counsellor Positions

Camp Counsellors will facilitate programming for kids ages 6–10 and 11–13 at a small working farm and outdoor education program on Salt Spring Island. Our camp programming includes farm tasks, hands-on activities, games, songs, harvesting, cooking, sharing food, hiking, and outdoor exploration. Counsellors will work as part of a small team to lead activities, with the opportunity to shape programming they're genuinely excited about.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with kids is preferred but not required — most important is that you're outgoing, positive, energetic, and playful
  • Strong interest in farm, outdoor, and/or environmental education
  • Education and/or experience in teaching, gardening, cooking, arts, theatre, hiking, or related fields preferred
  • Physically able to work outdoors in all weather conditions for up to 9 hours a day
  • Able to follow policies and procedures to ensure camper and staff health and safety
  • Current First Aid, including Child and Infant CPR, not required but a strong asset
  • Lifeguard training is a huge plus — and if you're willing to complete an open water certification course, we'll fund it
  • Must pass a criminal record check to work with children and vulnerable populations
  • Must meet Canada Summer Jobs requirements

Working as a camp counsellor is an immersive and rewarding experience — you'll be building real connections with kids, fostering their curiosity, and helping them find joy in farm life, the outdoors, and purposeful work together.

Camp staff receive thorough training, including camp programming, health and safety, and diversity and inclusion.

Details 40 hours per week, 6 weeks, $22–$23 per hour depending on experience. Season starts July 2, and ends mid August.
