Role: Duck & Run Event Volunteer or Volunteer Organizer
Organization: Ducks Unlimited Canada
Location: Nanaimo, Tsawwassen, Abbotsford, BC

Duck & Run Event Volunteer or Volunteer Organizer-BC (Nanaimo, Tsawwassen, Abbotsford) – For June 22/23 Event

Purpose

Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) is looking for outgoing, organized volunteers to assist DUC Staff with planning and hosting a Duck & Run event in the areas of Nanaimo, Abbotsford, and Tsawwassen, British Columbia. DUC’s Duck & Run is a national volunteer-led outdoor running event to raise awareness and dollars for wetland conservation.

Skills/Requirements (We need both Volunteer Organizers and Volunteer Helpers – indicate if you want to lead or support)

  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Reliable internet connection.
  • Comfortable with basic computer functions, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, communication platforms (Zoom, Teams)
  • Comfort using various social media platforms to promote messaging.
  • Experience in event planning, organizing parties, and running are helpful assets.

Time Requirements

  • 2-4 hours/week leading up the Run Day on June 22-23
  • 3-5 hours on the day of run

Duties at a glance to help with (Prior to Event Day)

  • Help to plan and coordinate a Duck and Run event within the community of Nanaimo or Tsawwassen or Abbotsford.
  • Plan the location, time and route the run will take place.
  • Work closely with DUC staff and other volunteers.
  • Help to recruit other volunteers
  • Obtain local sponsorships.
  • Promote the event through social media platforms.
  • Help identify a person to make a short opening speech on run day

Duties at a glance to help with (On Event Day)

  • Set up tent and registration table.
  • Work at a designated station and help coordinate volunteers to their designated stations.
  • Greet runners and direct to start-line, hand out medals at finish
  • Facilitate opening speech prior to start of run.
  • Event clean up.
